Pantheon of Heroes
When Alleria boarded up the walls, the Elves and and some groups of humans and halflings stayed behind outside of the walls as hunters and nomads, living off the land and fighting in a constant battle with goblins, trolls, and orcs. They developed their own Allerian culture separate from Alleria, and eventually became what is called the Kaan nomads. They have their own language and way of life, but share the stories of ancient Alleria. To them, however, Old Alleria isn’t some far-away place, it is all around them for them to guard and protect. The living forest is their benefactor, its roots buried deep into ancient cities. They learned to work with nature and revere it, becoming druids and worshipping the living spirit gods that protect and guard the living world.
The Kaan nomads are master cavalry. They live and die with their animal friends, sometimes horses, others large wolves or predator cats, or even the legendary flying owls or eagles which are prized throughout Alleria. Whatever the case, they are amazing warriors in mounted combat. They are known for their woodcraft and as guides, as expert archers and masters of the spear and lance. They live among the trees, in the plains, along the river, wherever their ancestors sought shelter or protected some long forgotten kingdom. They are proud and noble, mostly reserved, and are tentative about encroachment into their lands but hopeful that it will mean a revival for the greatness of Alleria from their shared history.
